Akhaltekin
Horse Day
The
Akhaltekin breed is the oldest breed. It took more than three millennia
to produce this breed. Busephalis, the favorite horse of Alexander the
Great, was Akhaltekin. The Akhaltekin horses could easily cover, almost
without food and water, large distances in the desert. They would swift,
steadfast, deeply attached to their master and beautiful. The horse
was always a close, real and faithful friend of a man.
Modern
Akhaltekin horses inherited their ancestor's best traits. They won the
best prizes at the 17th Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, at the 18th Olympic
Games in Tokyo and the Mexico Games in 1968 were also success.
Akhaltekins
are breed at the stud farm of the Turkmen Atlary state Association.
The pride of Turkmens, Akhaltekin horses are part of Sovereign Turkmenistan's
national emblem. The Turkmen Horses Holiday is one of our favorite holidays.
It is celebrated on the last Sunday of April.
