WELCOME to the "Holidays of Turkmenistan" web-site that will
give you some interesting and useful information about the important dates
in the life of Turkmen people.
Our
holidays are connected with the political events, national and local traditions.
There
are some public holidays in Turkmenistan. They
are Independence Day, the Day of Turkmen Flag, Victory Day, Constitution
Day, the Day of Neutrality and others.
The
1st of January is the New Year Day.
The
19th of February is the National Flag Day.
On
the 21st of March we celebrate Novruz Bayram
(Turkmen New Year) and National holiday of Spring.
The
9th of May is Victory Day. In 2005 Turkmen
People have celebrated 60th anniversary of Great Victory over fascist
Germany. Thousands of Turkmen soldiers took parting Great Patriotic War
in 1941-45.
The
18th of May is the Constitution Day.
On
the 27th of October Turkmen people celebrate the great holiday - Independence
Day. This year we have celebrated 15th anniversary of our Independence.
Another great holiday is Neutrality Day.
It is celebrated on the 12th of December.
Some
of these holidays are connected with the history and religious roots of
Turkmen people. For example, Kurban Bayram
is celebrated every year according to the Muslim's calendar.
People
do not go to work or to school on these days.
Besides
public holidays Turkmen people have some festivals
in Turkmenistan. They are: the Day of Turkmen
Carpet, the Day of Akhaltekin Horse, Harvest
Day, the Day of Bakshi, the
Day of Turkmen Melon, the holiday of water - "The
Drop of Water is Like a Drop of Gold" and others. They usually
fall on weekends.
